# GET /api/markets/category-stats

> Market counts and volume per category

Returns one row per market category, with its market count, live market count and volume. The `category` values work as the `category` filter on [`GET /api/markets`](/developer-docs/public-embed-api/endpoints/markets).

## Endpoint

This endpoint takes no parameters.

## Response

**categories** `object[]`

`{ category, categoryLabel, marketCount, liveCount, totalVolume }`. `category` is the slug. `marketCount` counts the category's active markets, including ones that have stopped trading and are waiting to resolve. `liveCount` counts only the markets that can still be traded. `totalVolume` is lifetime volume across all of the category's markets, resolved ones included, in atomic USDC.

## Caching and rate limit

Market reads group, rate-limited per IP (see [Rate limits](/developer-docs/public-embed-api/overview#rate-limits)). Responses may be served from a short-lived cache.
